Winter Semester Kick Off A Success
The 2021 AKG Academy #WinterSemester kicked off over the weekend and the smiles say it all. A record number of young athletes participated in the session that walked them through various drills and games designed to shake off the rust from the holiday break. Looking at the damp hair and obvious smiles, I think the kiddos were happy to be back on the ice.
The second semester – which typically starts after the holiday break and completion of the Learn to Hockey introduction course – allows for easy movement and transition as each player is again grouped by like skill sets to continue the development cycle at a pace that works for them. Throughout this semester, our coaches are empowered to adapt the USA Hockey model to each skill group and develop each player, helping them create a strong foundation and encouraging them to reach for more. We are so proud to see each skater working hard and growing by leaps and bounds.
Grouping for the second semester of the season typically include the Ice Puppies (ages 4-6), Jr Grizzlies (ages 7-8), and Jr Grizzlies Red (the advanced grouping at the older age group).
