Grizzlies Coaches Take in USA Hockey Clinic Road Show
Several Alaska Grizzlies coaches benefited from attending the recent Fairbanks edition of the USA Hockey Coaching Clinic road show. The clinic, held at the Bunnell Auditorium on the UAF Campus, is designed to enhance coaching expertise and knowledge in the sport of hockey and is a popular event which is typically well attended. The Grizzlies staff was well represented and pulled from the event various techniques and philosophies which will be used to enhance player development within the organization in addition to progressing their certification level through USA Hockey.
Among the speakers for this year’s presentation was Kenny Rausch, USA Hockey Director of Youth Hockey and ADM Manager who spoke on day one of the two day event regarding Development Myths and Habits of Successful Players. USA Hockey ADM Manager Bob Mancini preceded Rausch with support from local rep Greg Milles on What the USA Hockey ADM is and it’s importance. Mancini also took the time to dive into Defining Positions and the benefits of the position less game.
It was an excellent clinic from very knowledgeable instructors, I personally will be taking this one again the next time it is offered. – Jason Lindsey, Asst Coach 12UA
Day two of the event focused almost exclusively on implementation of successful practices through the use of station-based practice elements and transitioning that knowledge to game day for the athletes. A short question and answer period closed out the presentation and gave the coaches a chance to give one-on-one real-world examples of the problems they face in today’s coaching climate.
Overall, the seminar was a success and anytime the Alaska Grizzlies organization can benefit from the knowledge of the folks at USA Hockey, we take advantage of it. The Alaska Grizzlies are fortunate to have the support of USA Hockey and their traveling clinic staff which includes our very own Greg Milles.
